Chimborazo
Conquer the Highest Mountain in Ecuador!
Get ready for an unforgettable journey to the mighty Chimborazo, the highest mountain in Ecuador (6,268m / 20,564 ft) and the farthest point from the center of the Earth! This incredible experience takes you deep into the Andean highlands, where you’ll witness breathtaking landscapes, unique wildlife, and the cultural richness of local communities.
Our adventure begins early in the morning, departing from Riobamba and traveling through Calpi, San Juan, and Pulingue. Along the way, you’ll observe local farmers tending their fields, guiding their animals, and carrying on the traditions of the highlands. As we ascend, the scenery transforms into Chimborazo Reserve, home to wild vicuñas, llamas, and alpacas, freely roaming in their natural habitat.
Once we register at the Chimborazo Reserve, we continue driving up to 4,800 meters (15,748 ft), reaching the Hermanos Carrel Refuge, our starting point for an exhilarating hike. If you’re up for the challenge, we ascend to the Edward Whymper Refuge at 5,000 meters (16,404 ft), where you’ll feel the thrill of high-altitude trekking and witness how vegetation disappears as we climb higher into the Andean sky.
After a well-deserved rest, we make our way back down, taking in the breathtaking views of Ecuador’s most legendary peak before continuing to our next destination.
